Based in the heart of the world-famous Silicon Valley, Santa Clara University boasts an unusually tight-knit and well-connected alumni network. SCU graduates (a.k.a. “Broncos”) not only populate the boardrooms and executive suites of local technology powerhouses, they also hold prominent positions in a variety of corporations, government agencies, and spiritual institutions across the nation and around the world.

SCU engaged Rolling Orange to design a Web destination that could serve its diverse and vibrant alumni community. The new website presents a smorgasbord of news, events, career resources, travel-study programs, and spiritual /volunteer opportunities, providing alums with a multitude of ways to retain their connection to “Bronco Nation.”

The Stanford Challenge was a five-year campaign aimed at seeking solutions to complex global problems and educating the next generation of leaders. University-wide initiatives on the environment, human health, international affairs, K–12 education, the arts, and graduate and undergraduate education let Stanford supporters change the world and change students’ lives.

This site was created as a final report on the impact of those initiatives, and a way to thank all of the supporters and volunteers for their efforts. Highlights of each initiative are illustrated with video, slideshows, and large images. An interactive map shows the physical impact of new buildings and construction on campus, and a By The Numbers section gets detailed for those who are numerically inclined.

The very definition of user-centered design.

The Princeton Office of Finance and Treasury asked Rolling Orange to help redesign their site as one component of a broad customer service initiative.

Our research phase helped define our primary goals: make content easy to find, easier to understand, and more accurate and reliable. Smart readers will note that the design of a website will only address the first of those needs. In order for the site to be successful, it would need a serious commitment from Princeton to design not only the site, but the content and the very business processes that support their division.

Special features were built into the design and information architecture to support these goals. Content was organized from a customer perspective. Forms were grouped into a central library. Policies were written from scratch, and a whole new section called How To was added with easy to follow Step-By-Step instructions for common procedures.

The site was tested with users, refined, and built on the Roxen content management system. The entire process took about 11 months and, judging from the feedback received, was worth the wait!

What’s the best way to communicate with teens? In their own language, of course! And that means visual language as well. We worked with the team at Salt Lake County Library Services to design a look-and-feel that would appeal to their audience and provide a long-term, extendable style.

Sketchy fonts, doodle-inspired illustrations, and a bright color palette all work together to provide a sense of youthful energy and exploration. Put that on top of content specifically chosen for teens, and you just might hear a kid say how cool it is to visit the library these days.

Since 1842, the New York Philharmonic has played a vital role in the musical life of our nation and the world, performing in 58 countries on five continents. To help concert-goers navigate the wide array of ticket plans, performers, and concert dates, Rolling Orange redesigned the Concerts and Tickets section with a project focus on site architecture review, redesign, content revisions, and the development of an interactive ticket finder.

Finding just the right concert or subscription package previously required patrons to navigate a confusing array of pages and pricing grids. By taking a comprehensive approach to site flow and user experience, Rolling Orange simplified the process of finding just the right show or subscription package.
